Old Ghosts Never Die

1 Mar

250px-Hull_House_2Today I received a link from an old friend.  Rich and I attended the University of Illinois sometime between Jane Addams starting Hull House as a social agency in Chicago and the breakup of the Beatles.  Hull House sat right there on the Chicago campus, though we never paid much attention to it when we were students.  But Rich has recollected the place and times of this iconic institution better than I, so I refer you to the link to his story:  http://www.libraryofinspiration.com/music_2010s_highviolet.htm .

Turns out Hull House is quite haunted–legend has it from a “devil baby” Jane took in, ultimately serving as the literary inspiration for the novel Rosemary’s Baby.  But more likely it was an unfortunate deformed child who Jane adopted and shielded from the public.  You know how public’s are; quickly the devil baby stories proliferated.

Flash to the recent future:  Rich had the occasion to attend a meeting at Hull House not too long ago, and I had urged him to bring his camera and take some snaps.  He said all was normal, with the exception of one pic shot in Jane’s former bedroom.  I asked him to send me a copy.  Hopefully he will, so I can publish it on this page…
