Living Paranormal Show-May 10th, 9 pm EDT

UPDATE: We already did the show live, and it was great! But you can still hear it as a past show by going to the Living Paranormal website, or get the podcast from I-Tunes…

On Sunday evening, May 10th, my wife and I are going to be on Living Paranormal! The title of this episode is Better Ghosts and Gardens, where we will discuss stigmatized and haunted real estate for sale with co-hosts Jason and Rob.

The time is 9 pm to 11 pm EDT, and the link to their live show is . Its a live streaming Internet broadcast–you can just listen or join in the discussion with questions and comments via their chat room. If you can’t make it for the live show, drop by their website anytime thereafter and look it up as a past show.

We’ll be talking about the Cripple Creek Piotrowski house of Ghost Adventures fame, the Jon Benet Ramsey home, and the haunted old Logan County Hospital. This will be a fun couple of hours! We hope you can make it.

In both scientific and supernatural circles these days, much is made of the concept of “portals.”

The Ghost Adventures boys were convinced that the Bobby Mackey’s saloon in Kentucky had a portal to hell in the cellar…an old well where years ago the remains of a gruesome murder were dumped. Physicist Lisa Randall theorizes that portals to other dimensions really exist, and she is trying to find them using the world’s largest particle accelerator in Switzerland.  Many are convinced that Stonehenge in Britain is really a portal to both the past and future, as further encouraged by the recent archaeological discovery of more of the structure buried underneath the visible surface.

Just what is a portal? The dictionary defines it as a large door or gate to a building. The Internet has co-opted the word to mean a site serving as a guide or point of entry to the World Wide Web.

The paranormal community has adopted it to mean an entrance or exit to a world inhabited by supernatural beings. Demonologists believe such portals can be gateways to hell. In this context, portals can be literal doorways, as found in closets or basements. They can also be part of man-made underground features, the kind that exist in abandoned mines, old wells, or even sewer systems. But can they also be virtual doorways through an invisible boundary between dimensions?

When Ghost Adventures investigated the Piotrowski house near Cripple Creek in Colorado not too long ago, the alleged paranormal messages they recorded spoke of the “underground,” and said “drain the well.” There was in fact an unexplained loss of huge amounts of water from their modern piped-in supply, but Dan was unable to pinpoint the cause even when it was investigated by the local water district. What could an old well have to do with a present-day piped-in community water system?

When Light in the Dark Paranormal visited the house, we spent considerable time in the basement where we communicated with an unknown entity. This was also where GA dug out the water heater* to reveal a buried box and other artifacts from a distant past.

We later recorded a strange EVP there that seemed to mimic the sound of that water heater being removed by GA months earlier (if anyone wants to hear this audio clip, leave me a comment below and I’ll publish it. Its very strange).

Was the basement or a hidden well in Dan Piotrowski’s house a portal to another dimension? If a well was dug in the 1800’s, or when the foundation was excavated to build the present house in the 1970’s, did one of them open a portal to evil?

We believe that the site was formerly that of a goat-rancher’s cabin in the 19th Century, as our research and EVP’s with that entity seemed to suggest. In those early days, folks had no piped-in water, and that precious liquid was obtained by hand-digging a deep hole in the ground until the water table was reached. Homes were often built right over these wells in order to make retrieval in the winter a manageable, non-freezing task. Today there are many old buildings with such abandoned wells, or newer houses built over the site of old wells.

How such wells could become portals to another dimension, diabolical or not, is the Big Question.

When people dig deep holes in the earth, can they be creating conduits for human souls or other subterannean entities to travel through? Jules Vern’s Journey to the Center of the Earth was the mid-nineteenth century classic that explored that concept among others. In that story, the explorers became hopelessly lost in an underground universe (hell?), only at the end to be ejected to the surface via an erupting volcano (resurrection?).

Notions of the afterlife begin deep in the ground for many religions. The ancient Greeks long believed in Hades, that underworld where the dead were escorted to their final rest or punishment, as the case might be. Many of us know all too well about the Christian belief in hell as a place of eternal damnation; somewhere “down there” from which there is no hope of escape. Hindus, though believers in cremation and the reincarnation of departed souls, do have a belief in both heavens and hells (somewhere in the “lower worlds”) as interim destinations before a soul returns to earth. While traditional native American tribes each have slightly differing beliefs about the afterlife, historic Utes in Colorado did bury their dead in rock-covered graves in the mountains, and were especially concerned about the comfort of the departed and the disposition of their surviving property.

As different as these and other cosmologies are from each other, is bad always down and good always up?  Either way, do the dead use portals to proceed from life to afterlife?

Back at the Piotrowski house: in addition to everything else, there was a tribal influence.  A Ute versus Comanche battlefield was just down the road, and it is possible that the Utes buried their war-dead up on the hill under where the house now stands. Were their energies released via a portal created from Dan’s basement or the goat-rancher’s well? Besides the Ute and the rancher, were there other entities there too? I must admit that my own perception of an “ancient one” scared me. My intuition told me that a very old spirit was watching us, wondering what we were up to.

Was it evil? I don’t know. But it was enough to make two of our investigators ill and retreat to the outside.

It may also have been the same “something” that drove Dan Piotrowski’s tenants to fear and anger; an inexplicable outcome that made it impossible for him to rent out that home again, eventually leading to its foreclosure.

If they truly exist, these portals may also allow access to beings who have no previous connection to the event site. Stories of “territorial” spirits persist…those who roam the land around a site using a portal to come and go.

What’s even scarier is what both demonologists and priests will tell you. Afterall, the one thing they have in common is their unequivocal belief in demons. Some contend that the Devil and his minions take advantage of hauntings, using portals to enter a site and pretend that they are ghosts! Now that is really insidious. Sometimes what is perceived as the ghost of a child may really be a demon impersonating one. What their intentions are using this charade, I’ll leave for your own speculation.

But if you’ve hung in with me so far, suspend your disbelief for one more paragraph…

What if over the millennia, powerful beings took up residence under our earth while our ancestors were still hunting wooly mammoths? What if their intentions toward us humans were not so nice, and what if they established conduits and pathways and portals back up to our world to do their work? What if over thousands of years different civilizations and cultures deified these creatures as evil gods in order to explain their sightings and influences?

What if they still walk beneath our feet?

It is the Halloween season, and part of my avocation as a paranormal investigator and writer is to give you a good scare right about now. So be afraid, and keep your portals closed…

Dan Piotrowski’s house was a great example of
a Haunted House for Sale in Colorado
what’s the connection to Halloween?

The Enduring Fascination with the Piotrowski House

3 Dec

Piotrowski House videos & evp’s from our investigation:

Every time the Travel Channel re-runs the Cripple Creek Colorado Ghost Adventures episode including the segment on the Piotrowski House, we get hammered!  Last Saturday night was another such night, and we received over 300 views on our various Piotrowski House pages.  So to make sure Piotrowski fans see everything we’ve posted about Dan’s house and what’s  happened to it, including the continuing saga of what happens next (we’re going back…), we’ve put them in a separate category.  Visitors can click on that link under Categories on the right and pull up everything we’ve had to say on the subject.  Stay with us. This is unfinished business.

Piotrowski House Update

19 Oct

As you may recall, our plan is to talk to the new owner of the Piotrowski House in order to find out what’s going on there now, if anything.  Unfortunately, we have been unable to pin down a valid phone number for her.  That leaves only one alternative:  to go there and find out who’s home.

It may be the owner; it may be a tenant, or it may be no one.  No one we’d want to meet after dark, anyway.  Stay with us for further updates…

We Know Who Bought the Piotrowski House

9 Oct

the former Piotrowski House

This past July, an unknown buyer finally purchased and closed on the    former Piotrowski House, the one featured on that now infamous episode of Ghost Adventures.

It was previously foreclosed on when Dan and his wife owned it.  Unable to keep it rented long enough to pay the mortgage, their bank finally took it back and the buyer bought it from them for only $49,000!

Did he or she know about the disappearing water supply?  More importantly, did the new owner know about the home’s history?  Why would anyone want to purchase a home with such a notorious past?  Why would anyone want to move in with ghosts?  Is the new owner actually living in the house, and has he/she had any paranormal encounters?

Or was the Piotrowski “haunting” just a hoax designed to delay the foreclosure and sell the house for at least what they owed?

We are going to find out.  We know who lives there now, and we’re going to ask some questions…

Piotrowski House Almost Sold

20 Jun

For a brief chronology of what’s been happening with the Piotrowski house near Cripple Creek, check out the Comments on the previous post below (A Sad Fate–May 5th). We don’t know who the new owner will be, or whether he or she has any knowledge of what went on there.  But I’ll keep you posted…

A Sad Fate

5 May

I am sad to report that the Piotrowski house in Florissant has been in foreclosure, and recently sold back to the bank.  As a REO (“real estate owned” property by the lender), it has been put back on the market with a different broker for not much more than the balance owed.

Leave a Comment if you’d like more information…

Haunted, for Sale Investigation–Update III, the EVP’s

30 Jan

Let the EVP’s speak for themselves

At long last, we are publishing the dramatic EVP’s we recorded at the haunted house in Florissant.  We’re just going to give you the link to the two recordings for now.  Next time, we’ll engage in some wild speculation as to what is going on in this house.  Link:

Haunted, For Sale– Update II

21 Jan

Lights in the Dark

What is it about lights in the dark?  Fairly common, unless they tend to turn on or off by themselves.  Our flashlight session in the basement was documented in our previous post.  But we brought the light upstairs later, where it continued to talk to us.  Here is a short excerpt of our last video in the basement before we went up:

The Energy in the Room

We promised whatever footage we could get of the K2 meter going crazy, and finally did manage to retrieve some in spite of all kinds of technical problems that night.  As you recall, the K2 uses small lights to measure fluctuating electromagnetic energy.  There are 5 lights, and 3 or more indicate some pretty good activity.  As I spoke to whoever might have been in that upstairs bedroom, the lights began to speak for themselves.

Again, a short excerpt:        Also, check out the EVP’s we recorded during this K2 session–next update.

Haunted, For Sale–Update

13 Dec

We’ve been waiting to see if our video footage of the K2 going crazy upstairs in the bedroom came out, but like much of our recording that night, we’re still waiting.  Blame tech problems; blame the ghosts, but the result is the same:  nothing to show you (yet).

But here’s the narrative anyway…

I turned on the unit while walking into the hotspot upstairs–the small bedroom.  As soon as I got to the doorway, 2 lights activated beyond the base light which illuminates when the unit is on.  The lights were fluctuating on/off; on/off; a typical reading for the presence of electromagnetic activity.  Keep in mind I had “swept” the house for such activity when we first went in, and got nothing.  A reading now meant there was activity that wasn’t there before.  The closer I came to the corner of the tiny room, the more the lights lit up, from 3 to 4 1/2 lights (5 is max).

I yelled to Terry to come up and get this on camera.  I began to talk to whoever might be present.   Are you a Ute?  I asked, thinking that this might be a tribal presence (another totally unscientific intuitive insight).  The plan was to listen to whatever recordings we were running later.  I continued with a series of questions relating to the battle between the Ute and the Comanche about a 1/4 mile away from the house, asking if spent warriors were brought up and buried near the house after the carnage was over.  To date, we have no EVP’s that answer these questions.  Hopefully, we’ll have video of the K2 lights that kept lighting up during this encounter.

One thing that any honest investigator has to do is to try and “debunk” any apparent phenomenon right on the spot.  If there’s a simple, non-paranormal explanation, its our job to find it.  I thought there could be unshielded electrical conduit either in the walls of that corner or just outside the building (the electric service was still on in the house).  There was an electrical outlet near the corner, but it did not set off the K2 in the earlier sweep, and seemed to be functioning as it should.  So I went outside to check for anything else.  Sure enough, there were wires attached to the outside of the house right at that corner.

But upon closer inspection, I noted that the wire was coaxial cable, the kind used to connect satellite dishes to the house.  There was a dish on the roof, and another on a pedestal in the ground.  This spaghetti of cable ran from each up the exterior wall of the house, disappearing into a hole in the wall to connect with whatever devices were used for signal reception inside.  I held the K2 right next to these cables:  no reading.  I walked over to the dish on the pedestal and held it right up to the unit:  no reading.  I brought out Terry for his opinion.  He said the roof unit was for satellite internet, but there was no receiving “tree” attached to the dish.  It was obviously dead, as was the ground dish for cable tv.  There were absolutely no signals being received by those dishes that could have been detected by the K2.  The signals in the room inside were coming from something else…

See previous post (below)  for the first part of our report on the investigation.  Next update:  hopefully some video of the K2 session…

Haunted, For Sale–the Investigation

3 Dec
basmt flash

ON for “yes”

On December 1st, Light in the Dark Paranormal visited the Florissant, Colorado home near Cripple Creek to investigate the claims of it’s haunting

Here are its preliminary findings…

Flashing in the Basement

(Intro video: )

The basement was where the owner and the Ghost Adventure boys first ripped out the hot water heater in order to retrieve the can full of old artifacts placed there in the foundation by God-knows-who.  We began our digging there, but not with a shovel.  We used instead a Mini Maglite flashlight placed on the ledge next to the dirt pile and artifacts.  Ghost hunters have long known that they can communicate with certain entities by asking them to use a flashlight to respond to questioning, as in “turn it on for yes; off for no.”  We have used this technique successfully in the past, and it worked for us again.

Here is the YouTube link to the unedited video clip of that session:

Based on those on/off answers, its possible that we “conversed” with a male who had lived on the land long before the house was built in 1980.  On the lot immediately upslope from this one, we did note the existence of a boarded-up old cabin, probably dating back to the mid-1800’s.

Though this entity could have been from a hundred years ago or more, he may have been the youngest of the ghosts we encountered that night.

Louise and Adrian are the women of our group who did most of the questioning, as “he” seemed most responsive to them.  They were told via yes/no questioning that he had lived there before the house was there, and may have had something to do with the rusted out metal box that contained the artifacts, including a metal crucifix, knitted fabric, buttons, and other things that could have been valuable to someone living in the 19th Century.

An Ancient Presence?

More sessions were done elsewhere in the house with similar results.  The ghost kept flashing, at least until Terry deployed the laser matrix.  This is a laser-generated matirx of green points of light that easily reveals any mass passing in front of it.  But it seems our flashlight ghost didn’t like it.  He promptly disappeared from the conversation, only to be replaced by something more insidious.  We were all on the upper level when Louise went down the spiral staircase to the main floor.  She didn’t stay long, and came back up feeling sick.  Adrian and I went downstairs into the living room to check things out, and we too became dizzy and disoriented.

We retreated back upstairs, only to feel the same there.  Our last refuge from this nasty feeling was the dreaded basement, which we hurried down to.  The depression followed us there too.  Only we were not certain if it was following us, or we were chasing it.  This is where any presumption of scientific objectivity disappears, and we fly stricty by the seat of our intuitive pants.  No video, no EMR, no EVP’s, no photos; just the lingering notion that something was in the house that was not the ghost we started with, and was certainly not our friend.

Searching for an identity, we concurred that this thing had no intention of revealing itself to us, and may have even been curious about our intentions.  I felt this presence to be every bit as old as it was not nice.  I recalled a recent episode of the Dead Files, where the show’s resident medium described the appearance of a demonic entity of great age and negative influence on those weak enough to do what they would never otherwise do.

We went back upstairs to the main level and busied ourselves with setting up whatever we could to somehow capture the nature of this most un-natural phenomenon.

K2 Meter

K2 Meter

I impulsively grabbed the K2 meter, a device that measures fluctuations in electromagnetic activity via the illumination of small colored lights, and ran up to the small upstairs bedroom.  This is the hotspot where a previous tenant’s 12 year old daughter had told her parents about the “shadow people sitting on her bed.”  And where some years before, a previous owner had ended his life by suicide just outside the window.  Someone had installed opaque bathroom type privacy glass in that window, perhaps to keep the fatal view from ever being seen again from that perspective.

The Energy in the Room

A third entity?  I yelled down to Terry as two of the lights started to brighten…

Haunted, For Sale

20 Nov

In my official capacity as a risk-taking, somewhat foolhardy real estate broker, I have listed a haunted house for sale.  This innocent looking abode near Cripple Creek, Colorado is available for $175,000, ghosts included.
It is the house featured on a recent episode of Ghost Adventures.

I have also done a video walkthrough of the house:
Part 1   Part 2

The paperwork is done.  Soon I’ll bring in our investigation team,
Light in the Dark Paranormal to hopefully validate what
Zak and the boys discovered.

I’ll keep you updated on this blogsite, or you can become a follower.
Or if you’d like more information now, leave a comment.
