Obsidian, also called natural glass, is formed when rhyolitic lava is quickly chilled. This shimmering black rock is found in abundance in Wyoming. Usually jet black in color, thin fragments that are light and transparent can also be found.
A much sought after stone in jewelry, this brilliant black rock looks lovely when set in a silver setting. I’ve recently had many requests to design a collection using this popular stone. Obsidian is fun to work with, and the wearer will be delighted with the attention that it brings.
